Had a 6.5 earth quake this evening, epicenter was 65 miles west of Challis Idaho. Bet Nate felt this one also.
This was the largest one I've felt since the big one in California when the Golden Gate bridge went down.

Stay safe

Bob, I was driving home in my truck and never felt a thing. Wife didn't feel anything at our house and we are about 1 1/2 miles from Nate's.
Folks 5 miles away in Twin Falls felt it and the news had video of some movement.  I don't think there was any significant damage here.
Weird how different ground and all the thick basalt transmits or stymies the shaking.

Bob, it was the Bay Bridge that collapsed. The GG hardly blinked.

I felt it in my shop pretty well. Moved me around in my office chair and my wife felt it outside at home. Light fixtures went to swaying, walls were creaking. Bob, it was epicentered almost right on the old Longbow Safari site north of Stanley.

That's a shaker for sure. The shakiest I went through was a 7.5. Usually there is another replica in the low 3-4s in a 12-24h span. Stay safe!

Don't know why I said the Golden Gate, I knew it was the Bay Bridge? Must be old age.

That is okay, you are probably still a little shaken up and not thinking entirely correctly.  Scary!  Regain your composure plus be mentally prepared for possible after shocks.  Best wishes.

Aromakr, " Must be old age"  I hear that one Bob.

Biggest that I remember was in South Ca. in the early 70s I think( there goes that old thing) Over passes and a VA Hosp. came down in Los Angles. I woke in the middle of the night, the bed was ..walking... across the bedroom. The light pole in front of the house snapped in half. I was living in Santa Barbara at the time.   ..OE

ps   Best to stay away from windows and stand in a Door way, if your inside a building.

I understood the SLC earthquake to be 5.7, it's epicenter was 5 miles from my major glass supplier which was hit hard. Lost lots and lots of glass.

Guy's thanks for your thoughts, however I grew up in California and have been through hundreds of earth quakes. its really no big deal. When the big one hit the Bay area, we lived in the foot hills about 100 miles east of  San Francisco, my neighbors in the ground swimming pool was sloshing water out of it. It was like a dozen kids were having a water fight in the pool.

I remember sitting on the couch and it bouncing up and down during the Easter Earthquake in Baja. That was the biggest one I remember in my ten years living in San Diego, I think it was a 7.2. We lived good ways from the epicenter but it was still strong. They never scared me growing up, I actually thought they were really cool.
