As a side note...I wondered why Alan Hale's son, Alan Hale, Jr., aka "The Skipper, was chosen to host an archery clinic at Whittier Narrows, CA in 1973. Maybe the promoters remembered his father playing Little John. Although I couldn't find an archery connection to The Skipper, maybe he was an archer himself. At this point, who knows?

One of the best movies ever.  Hill was right about "The Adventures of Robin Hood" swelling the ranks of archers.  Frank

That movie influenced me considerably. I was already into archery when I first saw "The Adventures of Robin Hood", but is sure helped to keep the fire stoked. This version of the Robin Hood story is by far my favorite.

One of my all time favorites as a kid and definitely made me run into the bushes to cut a suitable branch to make a really wimpy bow,
but nevertheless, it inspired the imagination that still exist to this day.  Down with the sheriff.

I suspect "The Hunger Games" has done for more recent audiences what "Robin Hood" did for earlier ones. Here's an irony: in both the 1948 film and the 2010 "Robin Hood," the star was Australian.  In fact, in the 2010 film, 9 out of 11 major characters were played by non-English actors.

Yes, but in the old one, the real archer was American. I guess in the newer ones he was a computer.
