That's an automobile leaf spring Lulu Stalker is using for a bow!

Do not mess with this woman!

OK, it's actually a photo accompanying an article written by her, about shooting too heavy a bow, in the September, 1950 issue of Archery magazine.

You still have to give her respect for holding up a car spring. They ain't light!

She makes some solid points.  I wonder if she makes her own bows?

Thanks for posting...

I wish my wife had her attitude. I tried to get my wife involved and even tried the offer of a light bow and proper arrows. Her counter offer was, "If you don't make me go to the archery range, I won't make you go to the mall". I took her up on her counter offer.

My wife shot regularly with me indoors and on our practice targets at home during the 80' and 90's.  She backed off when our local indoor range closed but continued to shoot with me at home.  Its been years since she has shot but now that I am rebuilding muscle shooting mostly in our barn she is getting interested again.

She is a true farm girl and had some strength.  Her first bow was a long recurve target bow that drew about 30# if I remember correctly.  She shot that bow for at least a year and then traded to another target recurve that was pulling about 27#.  She had watched me shoot and knew the basics of shooting.  She is a perfectionist so she worked on form by herself save for asking a question now and then.  Frankly, she did quite well.

She does not like nor want to participate in any competitions so we would go the the range and she would shoot 12 arrows per end and then pull those and shoot another 12 in the next line.....  she like to let the arrows fly.  I hope in the next few months she will be back shooting full tilt.  Until then she is my coach on form and all things performance wise.
