Hello everyone.

I am looking for opinions from owners of longbows made by Newwood Longbows.

I am completely new to archery but love shooting my three recurves and have played with the idea of a reflex/deflex longbow. Newwood is local to me and the thought of owning a custom locally made bow is vary tempting.

If anyone has shot their Vanguard model and could share some insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a New wood of the smoothest bows I have ever shot...Chris gets a thumbs up from me for sure. By the way, I'm originally from Wausau! Howdy, neighbor!

You could call him and set up a time to go to his place to try some out. Sometimes he is at the June shoot in Chippewa Falls. You may be able to test shoot a couple of his bows there.

Thanks for your input Lbhunter63. mistercmath, I do plan to call them to see if I can stop in and try their bows. Could be a nice weekend to plan some climbing at Devils Lake then head to Merril for some mountain biking.

If you are not yet a member of the WTA ( Wisconsin Traditional Archers) you should look into it. Chris and wife were at our banquet last weekend. There is a shoot / bowjam coming up in about a month or so at the Ojibwa club located near you. The shoot will be trad only. There might be a few New Wood bows there. Ask around. Look for me, i am the membership chairman for the WTA and will likely be there, at least on Saturday.

Van Dutch, hope you like lots of snow for your mountain bike ride? Awful lot of snow on the ground from Merrill north.
Yours for better bowhunting, Kelly

Chucks. I shot the past two Thursday's at Ojibwa and met some great people. I do plan on making it to their open shoots and having a good time, looking forward to meeting you there.

Kelly, I do enjoy the snow just not on my bike. I'll try to plan it for warmer weather for sure.

Thanks guys for shinning the light on a home state bow maker. I will check him out.

Warmer weather? It is going to be a balmy 40 up here in northeast Wisconsin this weekend!!

If anyone knows of other bowyers in Wi let us know.

I was looking into RER but I found out the name was sold and are being made out of state. Not that I wouldn't purchase one if I found it to be the One.

My first ASL was a Big River longbow and it shot well. Not sure if he’s still making bows but definitely worth checking out

I've shot all his models. Fantastic bows. Very quick, quiet, and dead in the hand. He's a great guy as well. He's usually set up pretty close to the Northern Mist booth when we're at Kalamazoo. I get to talk to him a lot while we're there. Great people.
