So after months of eager anticipation, my Northern Mist Sprague Takedown arrived in the mail at the VA house. Drove down yesterday to get it.  Have only had a few minutes to mess with it in between conference calls this morning, but I did want to share a few pics. Shot 3 arrows with it in my 8 yards basement range and am very pleased with the results, even if the arrows were a bit overspined (50-55#, 27") at my 26 1/2" draw.  Smooth shooting and quiet, as are all of Steve's bows. Driving back to PA this morning, but will try to do a real review of it sometime this weekend or after the hunting trip to TX next week.  Specs are 66", 52# @ 28".  Maple cores, Flame Birch veneeers, Elk tips, leather grip.  And I've already forgotten what Steve told me the riser wood is.

That is one of the prettiest bows I've seen Steve build. Also the same specs I would have ordered.

Got the Sprague out to the 3D range this morning for a final bit of practice before I head down to TX on Wed.  It seems to really prefer wood arrows over carbons, which is probably appropriate in the big scheme of things. Gobbled up 5 different combinations of 45-52# spined wood arrows & various 2-blade broadhead types.  Also loved 400 spine carbons with 175gr VPA 3-blades. Makes it difficult to decide which arrows to take into the blind with me.

Took the chronograph out with me too and compared a few shots from both the Sprague (66", 52#) and the Ramer (64", 55#).  Didn't do a formal test, but both bows shot 600 gr 400 spine Heavy Hunter arrows pretty consistently in the 150+ fps range at my 26 1/2" draw.  Doesn't really matter, but am sure I can get 170+ with lighter arrows.

As well as the Sprague performed though, my wife gave me a run for my money on most targets this morning with her new longbow from Jay St Charles and some freshly made wood arrows from The Footed Shaft. We're both looking forward to the start of 3D season in a month or so.

Never met a Northern Mist that I didn't like.  Have a Baraga and Northern Mist.  Love to shoot them both.  Haven't looked at another longbow in nearly ten years.
I'd love to try a Sprague out.  This may be his best design yet. And that's saying a lot.
