I have been shooting trad since Christmas.  My wife gave me a Bear Grizzly, and I have learned to enjoy stump shooting.  However, the itch to try longbow proved too much, so I bought myself a Bear AuSable 64" 35#.  I took it out for the first time today.  It is a pleasure to shoot and I feel very happy to have a recurve and a longbow.  Here is a picture of my last six shots today from 18 yards.  I am 70 years old and truly enjoy my new hobby.  I ordered a couple of judos for the AuSable as soon as I got back from target shooting. Congrats on the new AuSable!   That's a great bow, I have the 45lb version and really enjoyed shooting it until I thought about trying a Hill Style ASL bow.  Do yourself a favor and stay away from the ASL's unless your are ready to spend more money and hang your AuSable up for good!! Enjoy [biggrin]

This is truly a subjective sport. IMO the AuSable will shoot circles around most ASLs.

It is a wonderful bow.  I wish the rain and cold weather would clear so I can get back to shooting.

I recently picked up a Ausable in 45# and have been shooting it inside due to the constant rain. I am waiting for it to quit so that I too can get out and so some roam shooting on my tennis balls. Mine is quieter than I was expecting and feels very nice in the hand. I really enjoy the shortness of it too, should be more handy in the woods etc. The joy of just shooting is fun city and this bow is fun to shoot. I'm not far behind you in age and have several challenges that make everything harder than it used to be but they are mostly forgotten while taking a shot. I had to sand out someone's initials on the side of the riser but that was easy and then I sealed it with True Oil. Hope that you are getting some quality time out there stump shooting.

Congratulations Rick on taking up a fun and rewarding sport and may you add many more toys into your chest while getting fresh air and great exercise.  Just so you know, it’s never to late to take a bow and go out with friends and hunt, if that resonates with you.  Best wishes.
