I have seen a number of photos of archers wearing the Robin Hood style hat, including actor Lee Marvin. The official name for the hat is bycocket. With the exception of a group called the Sylvan Archers, who hung out in Sherwood Forest in Sherwood, Oregon in the 1940's, and a few would be movie Robin Hoods, I haven't come across anyone wearing the complete outfit, including tights.

This ad, in Archery, April 1953, made me wonder if anyone actually bought this stuff.

Then, in the November, 1953 issue I came across this photo.

So, I guess this makes at least one guy. Wonder why he wasn't wearing his tights?

"Wonder why he wasn't wearing his tights?"

Maybe his wife told him not to come home if he did.

Years ago when we went to Trad shoots many shooters dressed as Robin Hood, Indians, and slept in teepees. You don’t see that much anymore.

If I wore that, I'd be mistaken for a chunky Peter Pan.

I painted "Taking the King's Deer" for fun.  My wife didn't like tights on tough forest dwellers, so I avoided the form fitting look.
