We made a run for it to the deer lease yesterday. It was social distancing at its finest because there was no one else around at all. The timber company had come in and thin cut a bunch of the timber around our stand areas. They actually made some spots even better as they allowed us to see better as well as to create better travel routes for both the deer and us.  I was able to locate two new stand sites, one for my wife and one for me. I will be putting up a 15' buddy stand for me in a well used travel spot. My new foot/ankle brace enabled me to get around much better. it is not a perfect fix but one that is very much appreciated. I had put two plastic wash tubs into the ground for holding water for the deer on top of my ridge not far from a stand. They had been filled in from the work and while holding water, will need to be cleaned out.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Afterwards, we stopped by this old country gas station and got two of the best hamburgers ever to go. There is nothing like an old fashion hand made burger cooked on an old well seasoned grill. They were caramelized beautifully for that awesome taste that reminds me exactly why I don't do McDonalds. After we got back home, I began putting together partially the two stands that I got on clearance earlier this year. And this is exactly why I have always owned a truck, to be able to haul things like stands with no issues. Love getting things ready for bow season. I still have to find a good tree with a thick cedar in front of it to hide a 6' tall stand for a my new cane arrows that I have made.                                                                                                                                                                             I make a small map of each stand with north and south marked for wind. I simply put these on cardboard and mark all the directions. I make a simple layout of any trails, roads or drop offs as well. Then, in the center of the actual stand, I put a matchstick that has a straightpin pushed thru it. The head of the stick is pointed in the direction of the wind according to the weather service to make sure that I can hunt this spot. This makes it very easy to remember for me and the wife. I try very hard to hunt the wind, makes for better success. Jerry

good idea
 wind surely makes a difference
 was reminded of that yesterday
Dog and I sitting by a 40 acre pond  relaxing after her swin
and she started sniffing   and looking towards the wooded other side
finally I saw a deer slipping through the woods-   it was a good 100 yards across and she smelt it
