Paul Helms TAS Mens Open Class World Champion
Paul’s story is inspiring.
When I announced Paul as the champion and “comeback kid” it was because a year ago he was regaining his strength after he had a critical needed surgery.
When I was reviewing scores, I noticed that Paul was in the top 4 after the qualifying round, then, in a head to head competition with the very best shooters, he brought it home for a win!
Paul Helms, you shot against really great shooters last weekend at the TAS Bowhunter World Championship and you had a strong qualifying round where you were 4th overall.
What did you do differently in the championship round and the head to head shoot off against the 2 best shooters to bring home the world championship title?
Going in to the final round I only had the intentions of placing at least top 3! The moment I knew I had a window of opportunity to move ahead was literally on target 1. The group all shot 5's and i shot a 10. In that moment I had a sense of calm and a surge of confidence like I've never felt before. The good Lord blessed me that day and i still feel so undeserving of the blessing he bestowed!
To answer what I did different was actually nothing I just kept shooting my shoot and tried to be as consistent as I could with my executions. The arrows were flying down the middle i just had to shoot the shot the same everytime and not mess up yardage estimation to much!
